Historical society's holiday ceremony collects $200 for Bath Area ...

WEST BATH, Maine ? The Bath Area Food Bank is the recipient of a generous donation gathered by the West Bath Historical Society at its annual yuletide candlelight Christmas service.

Each year, the event?s offering goes to a local, nonprofit organization, according to Avery Meyers, the historical society?s president. This year, that tallied $200.

?We are pleased to be able to offer this donation as part of our commitment to the local community,? said Meyers. Kimberly Gates, the food bank?s director of public relations, said the $200 would be used to purchase about $1,600 worth of ?much-needed? food from the Good Shepherd Food Bank.

?We thank organizations like the West Bath Historical Society, who help make it possible to continue our mission,? said Gates.

The Christmas service, which the historical society has played host to for 12 years, was held at the historic Old West Bath Meeting House on Berry?s Mill Road. The ecumenical service included the reading of Scriptures and poems, including a Buddhist prayer for peace.

The Bath Area Food Bank serves Bath, West Bath, Phippsburg, Woolwich, Georgetown and Arrowsic. The organization funds both the Food Pantry at the United Church of Christ in Bath and the Soup Kitchen at the First Baptist Church in Bath. Anyone who wants to help support the organization can send donations to the Bath Area Food Bank, P.O. Box 65, Bath 04530.
