KANSAS CITY, Mo. ? Cancer affects millions of people every year. On Sunday, people from all across the metro took part in the All-Star 5K to help raise money to find a cure.
The runners make it possible for the Prostate Cancer Foundation, Stand up to Cancer and the Kansas City branch of the Susan G. Komen Foundation to fund cancer research.
?1,500 people a day in this country die, one a minute, one of every two women and one of every three men standing around us right now will be diagnosed with cancer,? said Stand Up for Cancer?s Rusty Robertson. ?That?s one a minute. That?s like 9/11 every other day.?
The charities hope by running to raise money for research, everybody who is diagnosed with cancer becomes a survivor. Runs like the All-Star 5K help research move forward and create lifesaving treatments for people like Karen Miller who survived colon and breast cancer.

?I?m supporting me and a girl friend Anna Huff who is currently going through breast cancer treatment,? Miller said.
Royals first baseman, Mike Sweeney never thought he?d receive a call that a loved one had cancer.
?It was from my father-in-law Jim Nettles who also played for the Royals and he said ?Mike,? I have cancer and the options that my doctors gave me aren?t real good,?? Sweeney said.
His father-in-law survived and Sweeney and 8,000 others took part in Sunday?s race in support or memory of a loved one or friend affected by cancer.
