Court Will Reportedly Declassify Yahoo's Fight Against PRISM

Yahoo_LogoYahoo will be allowed to prove that it fought against the National Security Agency’s internet spying program, PRISM. A secret court ruled on Monday that the government should investigate how it can declassify the legal battle, “The Government shall conduct a declassification review of this Court’s Memorandum Opinion of [Yahoo's case] and the legal briefs submitted by the parties to this Court,” reads the ruling, according to CNET.”After such review, the Court anticipates publishing that Memorandum Opinion in a form that redacts any properly classified information.” Yahoo, Google and other Internet giants are fighting the federal government to disclose more aspects of the secret dragnet program, which they say have been exaggerated by the media.?All participating companies must adhere to a strict gag order that forbids them from talking specifics about the alleged spying operation. After it was first revealed that the government monitored emails, phone calls, and Internet browsing behavior of the top internet firms, it was also revealed that Yahoo had a lost a fight to prohibit the government from monitoring its users. Now, at the very least, Yahoo will get to prove it fought…and this is what seems so insane. The NSA’s program is so secretive that being allowed to talk about how an organization lost a court battle is now considered a victory. The court decision does nothing to inform users about how they’re being monitored, let alone puts us on the path to greater oversight over the NSA. While its a nice first step, and will hopefully snowball into more transparency, the public is no better off. It will just let companies confirm that we have, in fact, lost the fight to protect users against a still largely unknown spying program. Yahoo!

A Royal First! Prince Andrew Joins Twitter

by Natalie Finn Mon., Jul. 8, 2013 6:45 PM PDT

    Come one, come all?please!

Prince Andrew has opened a Twitter account, @TheDukeOfYork, making him the first member of Great Britain's royal family to utilize the social-networking site.

?"Welcome to my Twitter account - AY," read his inaugural tweet, the initialed sign-off indicating that he wrote it himself.

PHOTOS: Highlights from?Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee celebration

Andrew's profile notes, "Tweets from HRH are signed - AY."

Sure enough, befitting his royally packed schedule, the ensuing four tweets that went up today (with twitpics!) were apparently added by his staff because they lacked the signature.

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie's 53-year-old dad currently has 19,223 followers after being active for less than 24 hours, and he himself is following 51 mainly U.K.-centric accounts, including Clarence House and The British Monarchy.

Meanwhile, Andrew's older brother, Prince?Charles,?is gearing up to welcome his first grandchild any day now, so we'll be on the lookout for any unlikely spillage of the royal beans.

And, memo to expectant parents Kate Middleton and Prince William (not to mention any and all members of the royal family): Consider yourselves more than welcome on Twitter any time!

Garmin Rolls With The Punches Of Changing Navigation Game With Smartphone HUD For Cars

garmin-hudGarmin built its empire on dedicated GPS devices, but those are obviously facing extinction in the face of smartphones that can replicate their function without requiring an expensive secondary hardware purchase. Today, Garmin announced a device that could help it capitalize on its changing role in the navigation ecosystem, while still allowing it to sell hardware to consumers.

    St. Dymphna's Layout

*Disclaimer*: I have not been blessed with artistic ability so I apologize for how simplistic the map is and how odd it looks.

    • The Woods: The woods, of course, is the mostly coniferous forest towards the back of St. Dymphna's grounds. Originally, they were to be removed so it would be more difficult to hide in them. Yet, the founder of St. Dymphna's decided to keep them, as the trees added to the atmosphere of the asylum. It is prohibited to go into the forest without supervision from staff members. Going in the woods without supervision results in a punishment that is determined by the staff that catches you. There's a section of fence missing in the back of the fence that no one has seemed to realize yet. It's an excellent way to sneak things in or out.
    • The Lobby: Self-explanatory, the lobby is the first area where a guest or patient will enter. It is finely decorated with church symbols. There is also a reception desk and a security guard or two to check those entering for objects that could be harmful to the patients.
    • Front Hall: Right after the lobby. From here, one can enter the office space or the common room.
    • The Offices: The four major offices are located here including Dr. Brennan's, Dr. Thredson's, the Monsignor's, and his second in charge's.
    • Common Room: The common room is where most patients will spend the majority of their days. It's actually quite nice for an asylum. There are a few groups of couches with a table in the center for conversations to be held between the social patients. A few tables have been set up too for card games, though gambling is strictly prohibited. There's a radio and a television for use but they both aren't very good condition. A few bookcases with ratty books are scattered through the common room, also.
    • The Church: The church inside of the asylum certainly isn't it very good condition. It was requested by the priest who ran the asylum decades before, claiming it would help the insane build a level of trust with God. It is expected that all patients attend on Sundays, even if they do not claim to be religious or are of a different religion. Monsignor Clancy gives the sermons more often than not.
    • The Courtyard: The courtyard is the only outside area patients can wander in without supervision. There are some picnic benches set up and, in the summer, patients can eat out there. Recently, a small sandy area has been created for playing sports.
    • The Mess Hall: The majority of meals will be had in the mess hall. Patients may eat wherever they wish to in here, but the staff sit at their own table.
    • The Kitchen: The kitchen is off-limits unless you have been assigned punishment or chores in it. There's a back opening in it which is kept under lock-and-key.
    • Stairs: The staircase on the office side leads to the Male Dorms. The staircase on the common room side leads to the Female Dorms.

    • Stairs: The staircase on the male side leads to the office side. The staircase on the female side leads to the common room side.
    • Solitary Confinement: Solitary confinement is one of the punishments offered at St. Dymphna's. There is a male side and a female side. Patients are locked in a nearly sound-proof room and given their meals through flaps under the door. Depending on the severity of the punishment, solitary confinement can last quite a while.
    • Male Living Space: Here, men have a joint bathroom shared with all of the men and bedrooms which are shared by two men. No women are allowed in except for female staff.
    • Female Living Space: Here, women have a joint bathroom shared with all of the women and bedrooms which are shared by two women. No men are allowed in except for male staff.
    • Employees Only Area: The employees only area serves as a break room for employees and their rooms if they choose to room at St. Dymphna's. Of course, only employees are allowed in.
